ELL Sheltered Model Classrooms

A COLLEGIAL SITE FOR SHARING INNOVATIVE CLASSROOM IDEAS FOR SECOND LANGUAGE LEARNERS

Second Language Vocabulary Instruction

Many questions arise when we ask ourselves, “What are the best methodologies for teaching vocabulary to second language learners?”  There are many arguments with respect to various delivery models, specific classroom technology, and access to a variety of materials.  I discovered an on-line book edited by James Coady and Thomas Huckin, entitled Second Language Vocabulary Instruction.  I invite you to browse through the reading and extract two important points that intrigued you. Post a blog and answer these three questions:

What two points did you extract from the reading?

Why did these points capture your attention?

As a result, what additional questions or knowledge do you wish to acquire?

Hello world!

Posted by vatorres on June 7, 2008

Welcome to Edublogs.org.

This is my first attempt at building an ELL Sheltered Model learning community with fellow colleagues…blog style!  My goal for this site is for colleagues around the world to collaborate and share best practices for teaching second language learners.  I hope that others may use this site to showcase their innovative methodologies and broaden their knowledge of teaching second language acquisition.

Please be patient, this is a work in progress.  My intent is to have links to research articles, video blogs, ELL technology sites, and much more!  I welcome you and ask that you jump on in and share your ideas.  After all, we all have the same goal in sight… reaching every child and maximizing their learning potential.
